The dress reaches the floor, with a crossed, cord-style neckline closed at the front, short puff sleeves and a waist marked with a wide band. The skirt falls straight with a soft sweep, and at the back a loose strip of fabric in a different color is added as a cape.
It works best in satin or crepe with good drape for the dress body, and a lightweight fabric such as challis for the back cape if you want to keep that color contrast. Cutting the skirt on the bias lets it fall without looking stiff.
