The dress has a plain upper yoke with wide straps and a square neckline, a back closure and a skirt built with deep pleats that give volume and an orderly drape. The length reaches the knee and it has no sleeves.
Because of the firm hang of the pleats, cut it in gabardine or a sturdy twill, fabrics that hold the pleat without losing shape through the frequent washing of a school smock. The pleats can be graded without losing the drape of the skirt.
