Baby sewing patterns

First-size garments with the tolerances and fastenings babywear actually needs: wide openings for changing, flat seams and stretch necklines. They are small patterns with low fabric consumption, which makes them ideal for using up the offcuts from a larger run.

Questions

What fabric is used for babywear?
Usually combed cotton with elastane (jersey or rib) because of skin contact, and light fleece for warmer pieces. It is the category where the customer touches the fabric before buying, so yarn quality matters more than the price per metre.
How much fabric does a baby garment use?
Very little compared with adult clothing, and that is the advantage: the leftovers from a larger production run are often enough to cut a full series of bodysuits without buying new fabric.
Do the patterns include the snap openings?
Yes. The crotch and shoulder openings are already resolved in the pieces and the snap positions are marked.
